Low-iodine diet

Before we start… take a breath

The low-iodine diet looks scary on paper, but it’s simpler than you’d think.
Two weeks, and one rule runs the whole thing: lower the iodine, read the ingredients.
I’ve gathered here everything I lived and checked, so you don’t start from zero like I did.

The rules in one minute

  • It’s usually two weeks, before radioactive iodine treatment.
  • The idea: cut iodine as much as possible, not the impossible “zero iodine.”
  • Avoid the big ones: iodized salt, dairy, seafood, egg yolks, soy (except its oil and lecithin), and Red Dye #3.
  • Read every package, every time. Iodine hides.
  • It’s the total that matters, not perfection. One small slip won’t undo everything.
  • It’s temporary. What’s gone now comes back.
